Spring is officially in the air, and with it comes a fresh opportunity to check in with yourself. March tends to be one of those months where the semester picks up speed; spring break comes and goes, deadlines stack up, and suddenly finals don't feel so far away. The Wellness Resource Center is here to help you find your footing with events designed to support your overall well-being.
This month, the WRC celebrated Wellness Week, a multi-day series of events held from March 16th through 20th in partnership with Temple Student Government, Campus Recreation, and the Office of Sustainability. From community-building activities at Charles Library to a Mindfulness Corner at the Klein Career Fair, Wellness Week brought well-being resources directly to students wherever they were on campus. If you missed it, don't worry, there is still plenty left this month.
Here is what is still coming up:
- Gambling & Sports Betting | Wednesday, March 25 | 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. | Conwell Hall, Room 601
- Sports betting and gambling can be ways to have fun and connect with others — but when does it become too much? Knowing the difference between sustainable habits and harmful behaviors when it comes to sports betting and gambling is key in making informed decisions. Join us as we keep the fun in play, safely and responsibly.
- While all students are welcome, this workshop has been adapted to the unique experiences and considerations of students who have experience within the military/veteran services or have family members who are active military/veterans.
- Managing Stress without Substances | Wednesday, March 25 | 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. | Zoom
- Life can be stressful, and finding balance isn't always easy. This workshop will explore substance-free strategies for managing stress and building resilience.
- All are welcome. Join us on Zoom linked here.
- Fact Check: Birth Control Edition | Tuesday, March 31 | 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. | Charles Library 4th Floor
- It’s easier than ever to access information about sexual health online, but it can be challenging to find accurate sources you can trust. Join us for a workshop and resource sharing event where we’ll explore the history of contraception, learn the basic facts of how birth control works, test our knowledge of common pregnancy prevention options, and hear from experts about some of their favorite resources.
- Light refreshments provided!
Wellness Tip: Stay Mindful, Even When Things Get Busy
Mindfulness does not have to mean sitting quietly for 30 minutes. It is really just about bringing your attention back to the present moment, especially when stress starts to pile up. Here are a few simple ways to weave it into your day:
Take three slow, intentional breaths before jumping into a task.
Step outside for a short walk and pay attention to what is around you.
When your mind starts to spiral, gently name what you are feeling and let it pass without judgment.
Harvard Health notes that rhythmic, repetitive activities like walking or even breathing exercises can activate the body's relaxation response, and the best part is you can do them anywhere. Even a few minutes of mindful awareness during a busy day can help you reset and refocus. For a deeper dive, check out Harvard Health's full guide linked here.
Whether you are dropping into a workshop or just looking for resources, the WRC has something for you this month. For a full list of upcoming events, visit wellness.temple.edu.
