Supporting Student Well-Being 

The Wellness Resource Center offers a number of trainings to support colleagues interested in promoting student wellness and resilience.  

Trainings range in length and are available upon request.  These conversations are excellent ways to enhance team meetings and staff retreats, but can be delivered any time.  Please access our program request form to request a training. Click here for the WRC Program Request Form.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches participants about mental health and substance use challenges. This full-day (8.0 hours total) course teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health conditions and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Please email TUWellbeing@temple.edu to request information. Please note, this training includes self-guided content and a required instructor-led session that averages six hours. 

Change Talk: Brief Motivational Interviewing for Effective Conversations

75-90 minutes
Faculty and staff may encounter challenging conversations, with students and colleagues alike. Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI) is an evidence-based conversation style for having empathic, effective conversations about difficult topics and behaviors. The training will cover the basics of behavior change, foundational principles of BMI, and practice of core communication skills.

Let's Talk About Cannabis

30-60 minutes

This program is designed for students to gain a general understanding of cannabis and its effects on the body and know the ways in which to help a friend. 

Let's Talk About Harm Reduction & Naloxone Training

30-60 minutes

In this program participants will learn what harm reduction looks and feels like in practice. We will define harm reduction, explore its goals, and discuss strategies for reducing stigma. Once equipped with real world examples on campus and within the greater community, participants will learn how to administer Naloxone in the event of a suspected opioid overdose.   

Let's Talk About Study Drugs

30-60 minutes

In this program participants will learn about what study drugs are and their effects, ways to manage stress without them, how to protect their prescriptions, and protective behaviors.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR): Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training

90 minutes
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an evidence-based gatekeeper skills training designed to provide participants with knowledge about suicide and confidence in foundation strategies to help someone in crisis. During this training, participants will learn about suicide statistics, differentiate myths from facts about suicide, and practice the core skills—Question, Persuade, and Refer. Information about campus resources and how to access them will be given.

Recovery Ally Training for Staff & Faculty 

60-90 minutes
This training will provide participants with the tools to be able to support students with substance use disorder(s) and those in recovery. Facilitators will review foundational concepts, components of a recovery-friendly community, and resources that Temple offers to students in recovery to cultivate a Community of Care.

Suicide Prevention Training for Students

45-60 minutes                                                                                                               

Suicide Prevention Training for Students, adapted from QPR/Suicide Gatekeeper Training, provides students with knowledge about signs of suicidal ideation and helps build basic skills to help a peer in crisis.
