Supporting Student Well-Being 

The Wellness Resource Center offers a number of trainings to support colleagues interested in promoting student wellness and resilience.  

Trainings range in length and are available upon request.  These conversations are excellent ways to enhance team meetings and staff retreats, but can be delivered any time.  Please access our program request form to request a training. Click here for the WRC Program Request Form.

Addressing Burnout & Workplace Well-Being

Educators and higher education professionals support students in a myriad of ways, while also navigating an ever-changing world. This emotional labor can be both a source of purpose and deplete energy reserves. This workshop, facilitated by the Wellness Resource Center in collaboration with Learning & Development, will offer frameworks to rearrange our work life to promote harmony and holistic well-being. Participants will be asked to think about what meaningful changes could bring them closer to joy. 

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based, early-intervention for all community members. This eight hour course (including two hours self-paced pre-work and a six-hour instructor session) is a course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health conditions and substance use disorders. The training provides space space to practice skills to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Change Talk: Brief Motivational Interviewing for Effective Conversations

75-90 minutes
Faculty and staff may encounter challenging conversations, with students and colleagues alike. Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI) is an evidence-based conversation style for having empathic, effective conversations about difficult topics and behaviors. The training will cover the basics of behavior change, foundational principles of BMI, and practice of core communication skills.

Graduate & Professional Student Well-being

45-60 minutes

This program explores the unique factors that shape the graduate and professional student experiences, the ways stress and anxiety can impact academic performance and life balance, and evidence-based tools to support wellbeing. 

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR): Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training

90 minutes
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an evidence-based gatekeeper skills training designed to provide participants with knowledge about suicide and confidence in foundation strategies to help someone in crisis. During this training, participants will learn about suicide statistics, differentiate myths from facts about suicide, and practice the core skills—Question, Persuade, and Refer. Information about campus resources and how to access them will be given.

Recovery Ally Training for Staff & Faculty 

60-90 minutes
This training will provide participants with the tools to be able to support students with substance use disorder(s) and those in recovery. Facilitators will review foundational concepts, components of a recovery-friendly community, and resources that Temple offers to students in recovery to cultivate a Community of Care.
