Sex Ed 101

30-45 minutes

This program consists of 4 lessons intended to provide the audience with a core understanding of essential sexual health topics. It is recommended to request Sex Jeopardy as a fifth, add-on lesson at the end of the series to give participants a chance to celebrate what they’ve learned.

  • Lesson 1: STI's and Safer Sex
    • Safer sex begins with a basic understanding of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and how to protect yourself to ensure you have a fun and consensual time. This workshop introduces participants to facts about common STIs, provides resources for how to practice safer sex, and encourages the audience to think through possible barriers to accessing sexual healthcare. The lesson focuses on a trauma-informed, destigmatizing framework.
  • Lesson 2: Birth Control, Periods, and Pregnancy 101
    •  With all the information out there about contraception, it can be challenging to understand what’s fact versus what’s fiction. This workshop breaks down how conception happens, the mechanics of birth control and how to choose a values-aligned option, the menstrual cycle, and pregnancy options. All participants welcome, regardless of someone’s ability to get pregnant – this information is essential for everyone to know!
  • Lesson 3: All About Gender and Sexuality
    • Understanding gender identity and sexual orientation can support someone in feeling fulfilled in their identity and serve as a better ally for their community. This workshop breaks down the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation, invites participants to explore their authentic expression, and works through identity-based reflection questions.
  • Lesson 4: Relationships and Consent
    • Relationships can be a huge source of fulfillment and joy when they involve mutual respect, care, and boundaries. Sometimes though, relationships can become unhealthy when a partner becomes disrespectful or hurtful, creating a dangerous power dynamic. This workshop works through characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, explores how to navigate rejection, and provides tips for safely navigating unhealthy situations. We all deserve love and respect, and this lesson supports participants in understanding what that means to them.
  • Lesson 5: Sex Jeopardy
    • Optional! Must be requested separately.

*Please note that this program will be facilitated by a member of the WRC Professional Staff Team or specially trained peer educators.
