November is often recognized as a time to give thanks for caregivers and families (chosen and of origin), as well as honor the history and contributions of Indigenous and Native American communities in the United States.
The Wellness Resource Center wants every Owl to know they can – and do – make a difference in the lives of the people around them.
Wellness Tip: This month the team organized a variety of events and programs to support community action and personal empowerment. We know the end of the semester may bring a range of emotions, including a sense of accomplishment, fatigue, anticipation, and anxiety. We talked to our colleagues at Student Health Services and Tuttleman Counseling Services to pull together some tips for your holistic wellness:
- Bryan from Tuttleman Counseling Services shared, "Take a deep breath and recall one moment from the semester where you felt proud of yourself or lived your values. It could be a moment of any duration or accomplishment of any size. You've done so much since August and take a moment to appreciate that."
- University nutritionist Lori offers some ideas for mindful eating, "Food is fuel for your life, everything you want to accomplish and enjoy. Whether you're studying for finals in your room alone or gathering with your family or friends for a celebration, savor each bite and notice the flavors and textures, as well as how you feel."
- Nurse supervisor at Student Health Services Ginny shared, "Checking in with your body can be a great way to learn how you want to talk to providers and healthcare professionals. Schedule your Well Visit at the end or beginning of the calendar year."
- Meghan wants every employee to feel their best and offered, "Being present and caring educators and mentors to students can be a source of energy and motivation, without a doubt. It's also more than OK to take time to recharge and set down work so you can enjoy all dimensions of your life."
